My ceramic bowls and cups are hand thrown on my pottery wheel, fired in my kiln, and then 3-9 layers of glazes are brushed on to create shimmering, ocean-inspired colors. They are then fired to over 2000 degrees. I create this beautiful pottery in my garage studio in Maui, Hawaii. 

I’m Lucia Maya, and have been making pottery since 2018. I first took a few classes back in my 20’s, then had a whole other life - raising daughters, creating my work in the healing arts, as a Reiki teacher/practitioner and intuitive guide, etc.

Something brought me back to a beginner’s wheel throwing class at Hui Noeau, our local art center on Maui, and I took every class they offered for about a year and a half. Somehow I ended up buying a used kiln, then a wheel, then another wheel (!), and my entire garage has become my ceramics studio.

Every hour of “free time” I have, I’m in my studio now, throwing pots on the wheel, trimming, glazing, firing, and learning constantly! I’m passionate about the process, and find it meditative, joyful, and brings me to a place of peace and centering like nothing else.

in 2021, I had 3 pieces selected in a juried show at Hui Noeau for the show “Heart of the Hui”.

I live on Maui, Hawaii with my 2 dogs and 2 cats. I find the beauty of the ocean, the plants, the land all inspire my work, especially the colors.
